Which platforms does it run on?
Scriptorium runs natively on macOS, Windows, and Linux. One purchase covers all three platforms.
Does my data ever leave my computer?
We never store your manuscripts, notes, or AI conversations. The only information we keep is what's required to operate your account (such as your email/login credentials) and messages you choose to send through the feedback feature. This account data is stored in Europe and protected under GDPR.
Do I need to install plugins to get started?
No. Everything on this page is in the app the moment you open it — the editor, the bible, the timeline, the mindmap, the exports. There is no plugin store, no community theme to hunt down, and nothing to configure before you can write your first sentence.
Stance on AI
Scriptorium is built around local AI. We don't send your prompts or writing to cloud AI providers. Instead, you can install language models (LLMs), speech-to-text, and text-to-speech models that run directly on your computer. Our goal is to make private, local AI accessible with a one-time purchase—not an ongoing subscription.
I don't want to use AI. Are AI features optional?
Absolutely. AI features are completely optional. You can use Scriptorium as a traditional writing application without downloading or using any AI models.
Do I need an internet connection?
