Install Scriptorium

Scriptorium is a desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux. One purchase covers all three platforms.

Download and install

1. Go to the download page and grab the installer for your operating system.
   • On a Mac, pick the build that matches your chip: Apple Silicon (M1 and later) or Intel. The Apple menu → About This Mac tells you which you have.
   • On Linux, pick the format your distribution uses: .deb for Debian and Ubuntu, .rpm for Fedora, RHEL and openSUSE, or the AppImage, which runs anywhere without installing anything.
2. Open the installer and follow the standard steps for your platform:
   • macOS — open the .dmg and drag Scriptorium into your Applications folder.
   • Windows — run the installer and follow the prompts.
   • Linux (.deb) — sudo apt install ./Scriptorium-linux-<version>.deb, or open the file with your software centre.
   • Linux (.rpm) — sudo dnf install ./Scriptorium-linux-<version>.rpm (sudo zypper install … on openSUSE).
   • Linux (AppImage) — mark it executable (chmod +x) and run it. There is nothing to install and nothing to uninstall.
3. Launch Scriptorium.

Create your account

The first time you open Scriptorium you’ll be asked to sign in or create an account.

1. Choose Sign up and enter your email address and a password.
2. We email you a 6-digit confirmation code. Type it into Scriptorium to finish setting up the account — it’s valid for 10 minutes, and you can ask for a new one from the same screen.
3. That’s it; you’re signed in.

If you close Scriptorium before entering the code, nothing is lost. Sign in again with the same email and password and the code screen comes back with a fresh code.

Signing up with Google skips the code — Google has already confirmed your address.

Your account exists only to manage your license. Your manuscripts, notes, and everything you write are stored on your computer, never on our servers — see Where your data lives.

Your free trial

Signing up starts a 30-day free trial with full access to every feature. No credit card is required.

When the trial ends:

• Your projects stay on your device — nothing is deleted.
• The app switches to read-only mode: you can open and read everything, but editing is disabled until you purchase a license.
• Buying Scriptorium is a one-time purchase — lifetime access, free updates, no subscription. You buy it from inside the app.

Purchasing a license

1. Click the upgrade prompt in the app — the trial banner carries the upgrade button.
2. Checkout opens in your default web browser.
3. Complete the payment. Scriptorium detects the confirmation automatically and unlocks within a few seconds — no restart needed.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only for three things:

• Signing in to your account
• Downloading app updates
• Installing optional AI models

Once you’re set up, Scriptorium works entirely offline.
